Application Process

The Academy has a formal, credentials-based membership application process. After review and approval by Credentials and Membership Committee and the Board of Directors, a formal induction ceremony is held during the opening ceremony at the Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO.

The names of approved candidates are subsequently printed in the Bulletin and the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Journal. During this process, candidates will have all the rights and responsibilities as members.

Please note: Resident members are exempt from this approval process.  Once the completed application, payment, and requested information has been received and processed, applicants applying for Resident membership automatically become members, not candidates.

Annual Dues

The Academy Board of Directors determines the membership dues rate each year. The dues calendar runs from January 1st to December 31st. Invoices are mailed in October and full payment is required by December 31st. Several follow-up invoices are mailed to unpaid members, including final notices. Since non-payment of dues is ground for expulsion from the Academy, the Board of Directors reviews each year's list of delinquent members prior to the formal termination procedures.

The Board of Directors has approved discounted dues for U.S. Members and Fellows in special circumstances. This includes Fellow/Member In-Training, military and government personnel.

Discount Member Categories

Military/Government Employees (U.S. Only)
Any physician currently employed in the Federal government or serving in active duty is eligible for the discounted rate of $690.00. In order to receive this membership discount, members must attach a recent LES or official letter from their command with starting and end dates.

Fellow / Member In-Training (U.S., Canada and International)
Any physician currently participating in a fellowship training program is eligible for In-Training status and is eligible for the discounted rate of $95.00. To receive In-Training status, members must submit an official letter with the membership application from the Training Program Director to include, program name, contact information, start and end date of training.

Bylaws

Membership may be terminated for:

Failure to pay annual dues in full by March 30th of the following year. The Board of Directors shall have the power to censure, suspend or expel any member who fails to pay dues, who no longer possesses the qualifications necessary for membership including suspension or revocation of license to practice medicine, who has been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude, who violates the Academy's Code of Ethics.
