Hands-on Audiometrics for the Practitioner: What the Otolaryngologist Needs to Know

The goals of this workshop are to provide residents, fellows, and practicing otolaryngologists with the indications and interpretations of different types of audiologic testing and equipment (audiometry, tympanometry, OAE, and ABR). Hands-on experience with state of the art equipment will be offered. At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to identify the appropriate test for each patient, perform a routine audiogram, understand masking dilemmas, perform impedance testing, and interpret OAE/ABR testing in both children and adults.

This workshop offers a concise and practical review of basic physiology, history, examination, testing and treatment options for patients with dizziness and imbalance. Didactic sessions on Saturday are paired with an opportunity for hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment on Tuesday in the Exhibit Hall. It is geared towards residents and practicing otolaryngologists who would like to improve their skills with these challenging patients. Case studies will be used to highlight key features of diagnosis and management of several vestibular disorders.

This basic course is aimed at the practicing otolaryngologist and senior level resident. It will cover various aspects of hearing aid selection and fitting. New digital technologies will be included. In addition, there will be a hands-on practicum, involving hearing aid programming.

The American Neurotology Society (ANS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ANS designates this education activity for the maximum number of hours indicated above of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
