Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I get a copy of my transcript?
A: A complimentary official transcript is mailed to each physician at the beginning of each year. Due to high demand for additional copies, we charge a $35 fee for each additional transcript requested. To order a transcript, please complete this form and fax it back to us at 703-519-1570.
Q: I never received a copy of my CME credits for a specific meeting or activity. Why didn’t I receive them and can I still get a copy?
A: We do not automatically send out CME certificates or credit reports for each separate educational activity. An official transcript is mailed to each physician at the beginning of each year documenting all activities and CME credits for the entire year. If you require a certificate for a specific course, please contact the Department of Education.
Q: Why are my CME credits listed as zero on my transcript?
A: When you completed your test answer sheet or evaluation form you neglected to list how many credits you earned for this educational activity. We cannot automatically assign CME credits; therefore, they are listed as zero. To update your credits, please contact the Department of Education.
Q: How can I accumulate a significant number of CME credits in a short period of time?
A: We have a broad selection of programs and products that offer CME credit, visit our CME & Professional Education to learn more.
Q: How many CME credits do I need to earn each year in order to retain my medical license?
A:The AAO-HNSF does not track CME requirements for the different state licensing organizations. You may find the resources provided by The Federation of State Medical Boards useful in researching this question.
Q: How many CME credits do I need to retain my AAO-HNS Membership?
A: None. The AAO-HNS has no CME requirement for membership.
Q: Can I report hours reading professional journals or online study for CME credit on my transcript?
A: These are activities that may be self-reported as AMA PRA Category 2 Credit™ for the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. The Foundation does not formally designate these activities for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and therefore they will not appear on your transcript.
Q: How is the AAO-HNS different from the ABOto?
A: The AAO-HNS is a membership organization that offers continuing education and other services. The ABOto administers examinations.
Q: How can I join an Education Faculty?
A: Once a year the Education Advisory Committee (EAC) reviews applications and recommends members to the Board of Directors for service on Education Faculties. Visit our Education Faculty Application Page to learn more!
Q: Do you have Educational programs for me to use at my hospital for nurses training?
A: We have a number of educational activities aimed at the non-otolaryngologist and allied health professional available on our Outreach Programs page. You can also contact The Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head—Neck Nurses for more information on continuing education for nurses.
